Kumi-himo
The 8 strand “Edo-himo” braid or Kumi-himo is made of the finest Japanese silk threads, gathered and bound together. This particular cord is woven in Japan, and has been treasured as a good luck charm.
Traditionally, the kumi-himo has been used in making samurai armor, yoroi and kabuto helmets, binding individual pieces together. Also, it has been used in making accessories, such as necklaces and bolo ties, decorative cords for scrolls and Buddhist ritual utensils.
The braid in itself brings meaning, translating as a “binding thread,” bringing together form and function, connecting people, and tying relationships.
The kumi-himo represents our community, gathering together to overcome obstacles, spreading love. That has EDC written all over it.
Please note, as the product is made of 100% silk, it is not as durable as the paracord often used in every day carry. Sharp edges may cause single strands to fray.
Also, When resizing or cutting the kumi-himo, taping the area where you plan to cut can help prevent the cord from unraveling and make it easier to handle.
